The music from Elton John’s life sinks into the uncanny valley with a studio band, a substitute singer, and a silver-screen production that misses the finer points of the legendary performer’s career.

These new versions deliver a snazzy, cinematic punch that distinguishes Rocketman: Music from the Motion Picture from Elton John's own work.

They don’t quite stand alone, and they’re unlikely to displace the originals on anyone’s streaming playlist. That’s just fine of course: The point is to spark renewed fondness for those old records, and for the incandescent meteor of a man who made them.

It’s Martin’s handiwork as music producer, with no small assist from collaborators like leading man Taron Egerton.

Seriously? The movie hasn’t even come out yet and there’s ALREADY haters lining up to bash the soundtrack? 1. Taron can sing 2. Elton chose him 3. Listen to ALL of it before you share your opinions.

Taron Edgerton can sing Don’t listen to Madfor80s, Taron Edgerton can sing. This is going to be an awesome soundtrack and movie.

It’s trendy to be opinionated If it’s good enough for Elton, it’s fantastic to me. Love Taron’s voice since Sing!

Why Elton’s original song aren’t here The reason why Elton johns songs aren’t on this album is because Taron is a good singer and Elton John said in an interview that he didn’t want Taron to lip sync over his songs or be like him. And Taron is giving us his version of Elton johns songs, and it’s not even that bad.
