It's a cinematic, heartbreaking album that is not only musically stunning but lyrically dense and fully-realized.

The result is probably the most beautiful acoustic record of the year.

III moves at a deliberate, nearly dreary pace that forces a listener to pay attention, and while it can take some effort to meet the Lumineers on their own terms, it's nevertheless easy to admire the ambition behind the project.

It's cleverly and passionately done. [Nov 2019, p.112]

Something of a grind--repeat helpings of grimly strummed acoustic guitar and keening vocals becoming the folk equivalent of consecutive courses of muesli. [Nov 2019, p.29]

While its predecessors shone with their naïve energy and natural rawness of sonic intentions, III is certainly the mark of a band that has gained experience and maturity over the course of its career.

Aside from three bizarrely misplaced bonus tracks, III is a stunning effort that both deserves and requires repeated listens.

It’s clear that the entire band, have poured themselves into creating this captivating and deeply personal body of work, that is easy to listen to, it takes the listener on a journey, telling them a story that resonates in the listener’s mind for hours after listening.

It’s a beautiful album – there’s no doubt about that – and it’s been put together beautifully as well, so much so that it’s just so hard to believe these aren’t real people, sadness and despair fills every corner of the record.

The Lumineers’ third album, aptly titled III, unwaveringly illustrates Wesley Schultz’s and Jeremiah Fraites’ gift for crafting anthemic tunes.

With chanting hooks and hypnotically repeated choruses, III makes you want to sit on Life’s porch and see who walks in to build a home with you.

The Lumineers have moved away from sweet and harmless wedding songs towards the lovely pain of poetry about normal people weathering the storm of regular life and it looks good on them.

Happily then, it’s fair to say that despite moments of decided sobriety, The Lumineers III maintains the band’s short yet exceptional track record and keeps them three for three.

My Heart😌 The Lumineers never disappoint me. I’m always blown away by their originality and catchy melodies. One of my all time favorite bands and I admire them for always sticking to their roots.

Growing Larger I’m so happy that while the Lumineers have grown in their fan base, they have managed to hold true to their original sounds. Their first album seems very timid in comparison to their newer music. Their sound has grown along with their popularity. I’m so excited for this upcoming album! I wish it would be released sooner than September.
